Before selling, I am building credibility on these platforms.
From the many platforms out there, which is the best for my creative business? -Read this and figure it out.
Hello, hello.
I hope you had an amazing week!
For me it was a busy week. Here in Vancouver people go out for dinner on a regular basis. So we often have crazy nights at the restaurant and February 14th wasn’t the exception.
What did you do this day?
Last week when I was about to write this article, I noticed that Gumroad changed their business model.
They used to have for slogan:
The more you make, the less we take.
That meant that the more sales you make, the less fees they will take from you.
This business model was kinda my motivation to make more sales in order to pay less fees to the platform.
Now they are taking a 10% flat fee over every sale you make.
I was so determined to make Gumroad my to-go platform to sell my digital goodies.
What I wanted to do on Gumroad is to start a paid newsletter where I’d share my knowledge about crochet.
In Gumroad, you can set different tiers for your newsletter. This feature is unique in the newsletters app. As far as I researched.
Every month I’d launch a new crochet pattern with different tiers.
You’d get the digital pattern only.
You’d have access to a DIY video tutorial + digital pattern.
We’ll make together the pattern and solve doubts in a live video, plus the previous perks.
I had everything planned, the descriptions of every tier, the prices and even my first pattern.
Then I realized about the change in their business model which made me explore other possibilities.
This is how Patreon got to my mind.
The main reason why I had chosen Gumroad to set up my newsletter is because the tier options and the perks you can offer.
Where have you seen this before?
PATREOOOOOON!!!!
Yup.
I am going to try out Patreon.
Petreon will take from 5% to 12% depending on the upgrades you’d like to have.
I will try out Patreon not only because the lower percentage they'll take from the revenue I generate but because these other reasons:
Either in Gumroad or Patreon I have to build an audience.
Well, I think Gumroad has less discoverability than Patreon.
More people know how Patreon works and what is it for.
I don’t have to explain how Gumroad newsletter tiers works.
This is how I realized about the importance about choosing wisely the platforms where you will host and sell your digital products.
The platform where you sell your goodies has to be accesible, intuitive and audience-oriented. I tell you all about in a recent post on my blog.
Here a sneak peak:
Offer your products where your potential buyer is
Choose a popular platform
Sell your products on a trusted platform
Build a community while you sell
Focus on effort and progress rather than an algorithm
No, I haven’t launched my Patreon yet. I am currently working on my social media on Instagram and TikTok.
First, I am building credibility and a reputation.
In this other blog post I tell you 5 takeaways to start selling your products with zero audience (and despite algorithms).
I am writing this on my day off from my regular job. Still I am working on my dreams to come true.
After I schedule this post, I will go back to the yarn and the hook. I am testing my own pattern with a different thread fibre and gauge.
Here is what I am currently working on:
Despite what your plans for this weekend are, I wish you have rest and a spark of creativity in your day today. ✨
See you next week.
